Job Description

This newly created role is a great career opportunity for a dedicated and passionate Field Service Engineer to join this established Field Services team. Combining hardware and software expertise in Electron, Ion and Light Microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics and natural resources markets.

Your key focus will be the installation, testing, commissioning, operator training, preventative and corrective maintenance of a complex range of Electron Microscope and Focused Ion Beam Systems across Australia and New Zealand. You will need to be able to work both independently in the field and as a contributing member of a technical team as necessary.


  • Conduct on-site pre-installation surveys
  • Conduct on-site installation, testing, commissioning and operator training
  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned preventative maintenance
  • Conduct on-site corrective maintenance
  • Accurately complete and submit Field Service and Preventative Maintenance Reports
  • Provide written feedback to Technical Support and Product Quality teams
  • Travel, often at short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other Field Service personnel
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel


  • A University degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics is mandatory. The applicant must be able to read and interpret schematic diagrams for the purpose of electronic troubleshooting and repair
  • Able to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude to work effectively with delicate and complex mechanical systems
  • An ability to work with Personal Computer systems at all levels including troubleshooting hardware issues, installation of any Windows operating system, installation of drivers, application software and the ability to create and manage small networks
  • An understanding and experience troubleshooting and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems is desirable
  • Previous experience installing, troubleshooting and repairing similar high capital or highly complex systems such as medical or analytical systems
  • An ability to multi-task and be highly organized
  • An eye for detail and a methodical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to deal effectively with customers at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
