How Will You Make an Impact?

Our multi-disciplinary team is looking for a key member in the research and development of the next generation of analytical instrumentation. Our work exists at the intersection of physics, high precision mechanical designs, electronics, firmware, and software.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry business, you will interact daily with engineers and scientists as we brainstorm and tackle complex problems in order to introduce new and improved products. Our collaborative team of engineers and scientists thrives on creativity and innovation

What Will You Do?
  • Use 3D CAD to design new parts, assemblies, and instruments.
  • Use GD&T to communicate allowable parts variations.
  • Perform design analysis via numerical modeling or simulation such as FEA, CFD.
  • Release designs for series production with all necessary engineering documentation.
  • Develop and review design concepts, drawings, bill of materials, and assembly processes and techniques.
  • Participate in prototype build and preproduction activities.
  • Participate in Engineering Change processes.
  • Develop, design and implement equipment, tooling, fixturing, and processes to achieve production requirements for safety, delivery and cost.
  • Optimize existing hardware and processes and to increase yield, reduce defects, and reduce cost.
  • Interface with outside contractors for equipment and process development.
  • Work with Operations team to develop sourcing/in-sourcing strategies and relationships.
  • Make technical design decisions on both existing and new products.
  • Propose product, procedure, and process improvements to departmental management.
  • Propose capital equipment purchases for approval by departmental management.
  • Propose project engineering expenditures to the limit directed by supervisor.
  • Establish implementation specifications for products, procedures and processes.
  • Propose product supplier sources for equipment or material for approval by manufacturing department.
  • Approve design changes (ECO).
  • Focus on components and sub-assemblies of mass spectrometers.
  • Must be well versed in manufacturing methods and able to select optimum processes and materials for medium volume and high mix production.
  • Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.

How Will You Get There?

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

  • 8+ years of product development experience designing parts and assemblies for series production.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and design analysis software, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Proficiency designing parts for sheet metal forming, machining, and injection molding.
  • Proficiency using DFMA methodology for cost reduction.
  • Proficiency using GD&T for engineering documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards such as ISO, UL, CE, and RoHS.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a project team environment.
  • Hands-on experience performing assembly and troubleshooting in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of high vacuum desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry desirable but not required.
  • Ability to use mill, lathe, drill press and/or other machine shop tools.
  • Proficiency using document control process and methodology.
