Organic Chemistry Intern - Process Development

Summary of Internship
The Specialty Chemical Manufacturing Team in Pleasanton, CA is seeking an talented individual with strong communication, leadership, technical and operational skills to join our dynamic and fast paced Process Development team. This intern position will provide process development support to the Specialty Chemical Manufacturing work center with an emphasis on fluorescent dye chemistry process improvement. The candidate will follow SOPs and work in compliance with safety, regulatory and quality guidelines.

Essential Functions
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of chemical manufacturing processes
  • Chemical process development and improvement
  • Written and verbal reports on process development activities
  • Follow all EH&S safety requirements
  • Interact effectively in a cross functional setting
  • Perform process validations
  • Participation in Pleasanton Practical Process Improvement activities
  • Develop synthetic plans and design and run experiments to test their suitability for large-scale use
  • Use a variety of analytical methods to monitor reaction processes
  • Ensure quality is maintained during large-scale production
  • Reading and writing technical reports and specifications

Qualifications
  • Working towards a Masters, or PhD degree in organic chemistry.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Organic chemistry synthesis
  • Chemical process development
  • 1H/31P/13C NMR
  • Silica gel chromatography
  • HPLC use and method development
  • Large scale experience (1KG and above)
  • UV/Vis
  • Karl Fisher analysis
  • Familiarity with standard software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point and ChemDraw.
