Ensures that each business’ brand positioning follows corporate standards and is consistently articulated in all forms of written communication as modified for their intended channels. Reviews other writers’ work for accuracy and proper tone and voice, assists with their training, and recommends improvements to processes and procedures to increase efficiencies while enhancing creative output. A proven ability to multi-task effectively under pressure and balance speed with quality while meeting aggressive deadlines throughout the copy phases of research, concepting, writing, editing, and proofreading is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create thoughtful, innovative marketing communications across multiple channels consistent with brand and company standards, exemplifying best practices both in writing for multiple communication mediums and in interacting with internal stakeholders.
  • Develop copy that conforms to layout and other design parameters while maintaining the consistent voice and style of each respective brand.
  • Model for less experienced writers and other stakeholders how to write creatively for headlines and campaign concepts, yet technically about product information, in a manner that elevates the customer experience and drives sales.
  • Brainstorm and develop creative concepts, both independently and in a lead role collaboratively, that advance marketing strategies and integrated campaigns.
  • Enlist the help of cross-functional teams to aggregate individual product features, benefits, and claims when writing technical copy for collateral.
  • Collaborate broadly with individual contributors from diverse teams to translate strategies outlined in creative briefs into engaging concepts and copy for a range of clients, all while championing recognized best practices.
  • Proofread, edit, and provide detailed feedback as needed on other writers’ work in regard to: accuracy of content; grammatical accuracy; adherence to approved style, usage, and brand standards; compliance with strategic and tactical objectives; and overall effectiveness.
  • Work on multiple concurrent projects, ensuring that deliverables are achieved on time while maintaining the highest standards of quality and creativity.
  • Help drive thinking on copy design and the creation of outstanding end-to-end experiences across all tactics, working with multiple stakeholders to help establish/refine usability standards for consistently high-performance results.
  • Apply your continually increasing familiarity with the company, its competitors, and broader retail, style, and editorial trends to help inform/differentiate our marketing communications.
  • Serve the copy team as a key internal resource on processes and procedures and recommend improvements to boost both creative quality and efficiency.
  • Support the Manager, Copy and Product Marketing by assisting with the development/enhancement of style guides and written/verbal brand standards as well as with educational efforts for both; also assist with the initial training, continuing education, and occasional supervision of other writers as directed.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Science, Communications, English, Journalism, Advertising, or similar and 7 to 10+ years’ related marketing writing experience with a focus on both creative and technical writing, ideally for a retail company and/or agency; demonstrable proficiency or comfort level working with material of a highly technical or scientific nature, ideally gained from experience in a scientific field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and proven leadership qualities are all required.
  • Demonstrated mastery in creating impactful marketing communications; exceptional writing abilities marked by excellent grammar, attention to detail, and story construction skills.
  • Proven experience in writing both creative and technical copy for on- and off-line marketing collateral; demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely for defined target audiences.
  • Sharp analytical skills combined with a strong aptitude for making meaningful improvements to processes and procedures that increase efficiencies while enhancing creative output.
  • Successful track record of combining business objectives, design recommendations, and technical constraints into a single, innovative, brand-right solution.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex, abstract science-based subjects and express them in a straightforward, consumer-friendly way.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in one voice across multiple tactics.
  • Sound working knowledge of marketing, graphic design, and information architecture.
  • Excellent spelling and proofreading skills.
  • Outstanding presentation skills and an exceptional ability to respond well to critical feedback.
  • Candidate must have a proven ability to multitask effectively under pressure and deftly balance speed with quality.
  • Successful prior experience writing for an e-commerce web site is strongly desired.
