Job Description

Position Summary:

Participates in projects in support of development of new products, evaluation of new technology, Sustaining and reagent in-sourcing activities for the MicroArray Business Unit within the Genetic Sciences Division in Life Sciences Solutions Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs and performs laboratory experiments independently in support of MicroArray Sustaining and NPI’s
  • Drives initiatives for cost savings and continuous improvement as needed
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant fields and techniques relevant to the MA Business Unit
  • Independently writes technical methods for production, testing, and use of new products.
  • Supports and collaborates with other departments such as manufacturing, Global Technical Operations (GTO), Services, and Global Product Support (GPS) by providing scientific guidance.
  • Observe deviations from the expected outcomes, perform failure analysis, troubleshooting, and data analysis and trending.
  • Lead technical investigations for related to product failures.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: (Bullets)

  • Has a strong knowledge of relevant scientific fields including nucleic acid isolation, nucleic acid hybridization, PCR, and enzyme characterization
  • Demonstrates mastery of laboratory methods and shows ability to develop new methods.
  • Analyzes experimental data, and effectively explains conclusions. Designs and executes follow-on experiments independently.
  • Reads papers in depth in one or more relevant scientific areas, builds expertise. Begins following recent developments in the scientific community, market, and competitors.
  • Uses word processing, graphing, presentation and spreadsheet programs effectively.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills through formal and informal discussions with peers, supervisor, and team.
  • Works with managers and peers to develop and execute a research program.
  • Mentors less experienced staff.
  • Understands and contributes to the technical vision/mission of the department and company.
  • Builds a track record of successful products that make significant contribution to the company.
  • Effectively uses the project management and company systems.
  • Set example for others through thoroughness, accuracy, and commitment.
  • Recommends improvements to departmental and site processes and practices.

Development:

  • Develops broader knowledge of appropriate scientific principles and concepts and applies in multiple areas.
  • Mentors less experienced staff.
  • Builds strong relationships with peers in other departments (Marketing, Operations) Begins establishing an external network.
  • Presents posters, tutorials and talks at scientific conferences and external customer

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria: (Bullet 3-5 key quantifiable skills or position requirements that the candidate must have to be considered for this position.)

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science degree with 8-10 years of experience or
  • Masters of Science degree with 6-8 years of experience or
  • Ph.D. with 4 + years of experience
