Position Summary

The Transportation Analyst will support the European Transportation management Strategy and framework by preparing, analyzing, reporting and acting upon operational data from our transportation dashboards/scorecards and data warehouses.

He/she will work closely with the rest of the RSD Transportation Management team, the European Supply Chain team – in particular European Analytics, Planning/Purchasing and Warehouse Operations, as well with the Global transportation group (TTG). You report directly to the Senior European Transportation Manager.

Task and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities and tasks of the Transportation Analyst are:

  • Manage weekly/monthly/quarterly dashboards/scorecard reporting of transportation spend and supporting metrics.
  • Generate cost benefit analysis for operations re-engineering projects.
  • Analyze shifts, spikes, and trends on transportation dashboards/scorecards to generate cost savings initiatives.
  • Utilize software applications (SQL Server, Access, Excel etc.) to develop department-wide tools for transportation reporting metrics.
  • Work with Freight Audit & Pay (FAP) provider to identify and report carrier billing errors such as where improper rates have been applied. Initiate and follow through on credit requests from carriers.
  • Reconcile and report monthly results for individual savings initiatives commenced within the preceding 13 months. Execute root cause analysis to understand and communicate shortfalls in initiatives and determine actions to overcome constraints.
  • Perform transportation network optimization studies as required.
  • Adapt and collaborate best practices with company divisions to achieve supply chain alignment and best practice execution.
  • Perform Analytics and cost studies in support of carrier negotiations and rate proposals.
  • Support EDI shipment level detail from our suppliers to our data warehouses.
  • Performance variance analysis for monthly service, quality, and spend targets and supporting KPIs.
  • Reliably manage weekly/monthly reports for: service, bi-weekly updates, monthly business reviews, staff meetings, etc.
  • Prepare analysis on shipment level bills to ensure contract compliance on all carriers. Collaborate with third party freight payment company. Ensure proper import of freight audit and pay data into global data warehouse.
  • Develop new metrics to report and drive best practice methodology for evaluating cost, service and quality. Generate budget analysis and monthly reporting of operational and financial metrics.
  • Rework or redesign data bases and reporting tool to continuoulsly improve efficiency and standard work
  • Train internal customers and peers on the use of tools and processes created.
  • Transfer “best-practice” tools and processes from and to peer regional or global organizations
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated capability in Excel, Access, and SQL server. Data warehouse setup and maintenance familiarity.
  • Demonstrated capability in advanced Excel techniques (pivot table, VBA Code, etc).
  • PC, server and mainframe system familiarity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business related discipline required (logistics, quantitative business analysis, management information systems, or related field of study).
  • 1-3 years experience, preferably in a high volume, multi-location distribution environment, concentrating in transportation optimization. Strong internship or co-op experience also considered.
  • Detailed-oriented with the ability to analyze / understand a large volume of data.
  • Experience preferred with Visio, MapPoint, CzarLite, Visual Basic, and Batchmark.
  • APICS certification preferred.
  • Good organizational skills to plan, organize, and ability to cope with changing priorities
  • Comfortable in a structured/procedural environments;
  • Dynamic, high energy, willing to continuously learn and use collaborative approach to problem solving;
  • Strong written and oral communications skills; Fluent in English, and preferably as local language (Dutch if located in NL). French and German would be a plus

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Demonstrated capability in Excel, Access, and/or SQL server.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business related discipline required (logistics, quantitative business analysis, management information systems, or related field of study).
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving abilities. Demonstrated experience in analyzing significant amounts of data and turning it into actionable information.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently take ownership of initiatives and drive execution.
  • Sense of urgency and priority.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to apply in communications with business partners, corporate divisions and business units.
