Job Title: Application Scientist
Location: Cambridge, MA

About the opportunity:

The ThermoFisher Scientific Precision Medicine Science Center has been established to enable our cutting-edge technologies to accelerate coordinated, multi-discipline scientific activities and support global translational and precision medicine initiatives. The Application Scientist will help develop workflows to utilize next-generation sequencing technologies (proteomics, metabolomics, and genomics) and collaborate with external partners to apply these technologies.

The Center is both a working laboratory and an education resource, open to researchers with an interest in sample preparation, reproducible workflows, and quantitative methodologies to support biomarker discovery. We love to support pioneering projects initiated to achieve precision medicine, and we aim to hire a key Application Scientist to work in our lab to achieve great results.

How will you get there?
  • Develop and implement technical solutions through hands-on experimentation and problem-solving for research needs.
  • Apply scientific knowledge and technical skills to deliver high quality scientific results that are aligned with the overall project plans.
  • Demonstrate experience in use of LC/MS methods and data handling.
  • Participate in the innovation process as it applies to your specific projects and contributing to the innovation process through new opportunity identification.
  • Assist senior applications scientist to perform experiments, collect data, and prepare presentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and reagent inventories and arranges equipment replacement, service, and repair.
  • Place and expedite orders for supplies and verifies receipt of supplies.
  • Take responsibilities for tasks that are necessary for daily operation of the laboratory.
  • Travel 5-10%

How will you get there?
  • MS degree in science (chemistry, biology, or related discipline) with 3 years of industrial experience or equivalent. Ph.D. degree preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Minimum 2 year of hands-on experience operating LC/MS instrument required
  • Pay attention to detail and hardworking
  • Prior scientific publication record preferred
