How will you make an impact?

The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for providing the technical expertise to prioritize and deliver results for the businesses it supports. In addition, this role will lead glass innovation strategy and plans. The Engineering Sr. Manager is also responsible for all direct reports within the Engineering, Facilities and Maintenance functions. This position will be located onsite in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and will be a part of our Anatomical Pathology Division

What will you do?

  • Development of site strategic plan for technical staffing, capital investment, maintenance organization/plan and system/technology improvements
  • Accountability for management of external technical relationships with firms, contractors, and equipment vendors
  • Provide technical leadership for site compliance with EPA and OSHA requirements in concert with designated functional experts as well as a detailed understanding of Project Management Organization and FDA regulations to ensure technical solutions comply
  • Provide site leadership to achieve maximization optimization of capital assets and site utilization as well as lead safety initiatives in technical areas – project and maintenance specific.
  • Develop short term and long range capital investment plans for facility and be accountable for the planning and execution of all projects
  • Responsible for the capital investment process for the site (e.g. standards, project management, capital approval, etc.).
  • Write and manage specific Capital projects as needed
  • Develop and support strategies that integrate Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Provide site leadership for technical solutions to operational problems including systems optimization, debottlenecking, and troubleshooting.
  • Accountable for the strategy, design and implementation of control systems and manufacturing information systems.
  • Provide direct oversight and leadership for the maintenance department. Provide strategy and support for maintenance issues including maintenance programs (predictive, preventive), development of tools and resources, personnel selection, training and development
  • Responsible for the maintenance and readiness of all facility fixed assets including buildings and site infrastructure.
  • Leverage and enhance the work system and technical skill level in the maintenance organization
  • Oversight of maintenance labor, services and supplies budgets, storeroom inventory working capital
  • Drive strategies for maintenance and equipment/process reliability
  • Accountable for the strategy, design and implementation of control systems and manufacturing information systems.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining a glass technology roadmap
  • Develop and maintain an Innovation Process to feed new product development funnel
  • Performs complex analytical procedures and implements new techniques for product development
  • May manage R&D activities in a lab group and/or act as R&D Lead within a project team.
  • Supports Product Development Process (PDP) activities and rigor.
  • May supervise direct reports in the lab in the execution, design and interpretation of experiments.
  • May contribute to the technical needs of product manufacturing.
  • Contributes to scientific literature, external conferences and/or scientific patents where applicable.
  • Provides expert consultation within and among internal groups.
  • Interpret and report results in oral and written formats, both within and outside the department.
  • Work simultaneously on several aspects of a project or multiple projects.

How will you get here?
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Microbiology or equivalent. An Advanced Degree would be preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, including minimum 5 years project management experience.
  • Industry relevant process experience preferred
  • People Leadership and Project Management Skills.
  • Effective working in a complex, matrix organization.
  • Customer experience a plus.
  • Strong track record of engineering aptitude, ability to apply engineering principles, and problem solving
  • Strong, collaborative leadership skills, including experience leading others in projects or programs, and the ability to successfully interact with individuals representing other areas or interests and the ability to manage team leaders and associates
  • Understanding and experience interacting with multiple business functions, including Quality Control, Purchasing, Human Resources, Finance and especially Operations
