Job Description

This specialist role provides in depth knowledge of Customs Compliance Laws and Regulations and facilitates the day to day execution of Trade for Fisher Canada as integral part of the Customs & Transportation team. In this capacity, the Customs Specialist would direct the day to day trade facilitation in the CSA environment, by reviewing and maintaining the Customs programs and initiatives for Fisher Canada to ensure timely, compliant release and accounting with CBSA. Additionally, facilitating the day to day coordination required for seamless flow of cross border shipments.

  • Responsible for compliance in regards to Tariff Classification of all new products as requested by OAC Purchasing / Marketing including following the nomenclature of the “Customs Tariff” along with the GIR (General Interpretive Rules), explanatory notes, D-memorandum and all Legislation.
  • Perform daily “New Item Maintenance Inquiry (NIMI)”, Fisher Special Supplier Purchase (FSSP) classifications, review for OGD requirements and Country of Origin.
  • Evaluate all new Government agency requirements to ensure import compliance with changes and incorporation into day to day operations and standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure they understand and adhere to requirements for proper importation of goods.
  • Analyze new products imported with duty and target for NAFTA Free Trade status from Vendor. Follow-up with the NAFTA package included in Monthly Drive for new products created.
  • Responsible for the NAFTA Drive at year-end, prepare packages and send to Vendors. File maintenance of NAFTA coding in Fisher Master file, and ensure we maintain landed cost duty savings as written in standard operating procedures. Secure resources for NAFTA Drive.
  • Maintain “Origin” criteria in Fisher Master File.
  • Correct daily errors for CSA B3 accounting transactions
  • Complete B3X adjustments/corrections for refunds and amends as required.
  • Complete B3AD’s for unsolicited goods to ensure accounting is captured in CSA accounting.
  • Provide liaison with Customs Broker and Vendors for non-CSA shipments.
  • Review existing Tariff Classifications for accuracy.
  • Assist with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Customs Audit and other major projects as required.
  • Initiate Internal Technological Requests (ITR’s) when required.
  • Attend CBSA trade shows and seminars.
  • Assist Customs Manager with preparation of monthly RSF(Revenue Summary form) for processing of CSA payment to CBSA
  • Involvement in daily transportation execution as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements /Qualifications:

  • Two year Customs Administration diploma from a Community College and / or a CCS designation required.
  • 3-5 years experience working within an administrative capacity in the Customs field, ideally CSA.
  • Demonstrated customer service and analytical skills.
