Working for the TEM segment of the Materials Science Business Unit incorporated in the Materials and Structural Analysis Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Product Marketing for TEM, the purpose of this job is to create and have ownership of compelling, competitive development roadmaps for various Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) detectors (Imaging & Analytical) and holders. By partnering with our Product Marketing Managers (PMM’s), who have responsibility for our main TEM platforms, the primary objective is to create differentiated solutions that drive growth of our TEM segment, the Materials Science Business Unit and the parent Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Define customer requirements to create successful workflow solutions, with, for example;
    • TEM cameras
    • EDX detectors
    • STEM detectors
    • In-situ and analytical holders
    • Additional components (perhaps from 3rd parties) that enhance capability and create differentiation when combined with the electron column, existing components or SW.

  • Own* the creation of any Market Requirements documents (MRD’s) required to describe new components/solutions in the examples above that need to be developed & or productized within the Thermo Fisher Organisation.
    • *owning does not necessarily mean creating these requirements in person – other resources may have to be organized to contribute depending upon the expertise required.

  • Create and own in collaboration with the platform Product Marketing Managers, product development roadmaps for the above components based on the market requirements to serve across all our Materials Science TEM platforms.

  • Execute Voice of the Customer (VOC) or other relevant market survey exercises that will provide the required input for creation of the MRD’s and subsequent roadmaps outlined above.

  • Communicate effectively with other relevant Thermo Fisher Scientific business units to ensure overall roadmap/development alignment.

  • Create and own new, or manage existing relationships/partnerships or projects with 3rd party suppliers where applicable to execute innovative detector solutions when required as part of a roadmap.

  • Drive and own relevant Business Unit aspects of the component product management process such as stakeholder meetings for development gates.

  • Own any ‘special requirements’ projects (NSR’s) related to detectors and holders for our Materials Science Business Unit

  • Support new product/solution sales promotions in the field with direct customer interaction, commercial and technical presentations and collateral.

  • Deliver quarterly and long term business objectives and track progress to appropriate business cadence (weekly, monthly depending on the objective).

  • Minimum
    • BSc ideally in Physics, Electronics, Materials Science or Chemistry
    • Proven experience applicable to carry out the duties and responsibilities outlined above

  • Preferred and advantageous (1 or multiple)
    • PhD in an electron microscopy or microscope detector related topic**
    • Hands on experience with Electron Microscopes or detectors**
    • MSc or MBA
    • Industrial experience working in an electron microscopy facility**
    • Industrial experience in the field of product/project management
      • **TEM experience advantageous

  • Skills and characteristics – candidate should be;
    • an effective communicator and team worker and should have demonstrated the ability to manage large/important projects in a timely manner
    • familiar with typical product development processes and nomenclature
    • prepared to establish & manage relationships externally with suppliers/partners, customers that have a very broad range of skillsets and specialisms
    • prepared to travel typically 25% of the time (but sometimes more) globally
    • capable of presenting very complex ideas and information clearly and unambiguously to stakeholders, suppliers & customers with wide ranging depths of knowledge & expertise
    • able to prepare and present compelling business cases for new products and solutions
    • able to think creatively and at times orthogonal to the organizations current practices, utilizing and encompassing the skills of the wider team to determine what is required to bring the right solutions to market at the right time to maximize business growth potential

  • Location in Eindhoven, The Netherlands and attendance on site at our Thermo Fisher Scientific EM manufacturing and development facility is required
