The Position
A part of the R&D organization is the Corporate Technology Enabling Modules and Technology Group. This group is responsible for the development of modules and technologies, focused on platform infrastructure for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This multi-disciplinary team works on various different microscope components like vacuum, mechanical housing (bases, enclosures, hoists), power supplies and cabinets, cooling solutions, IT solutions and infrastructure.

As Sr Mechanical Designer you will be part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team and you will be responsible for the mechanical infrastructure designs for our high end microscope. You will work closely with a team of mechanical engineers, architects, project manager, suppliers and disciplines outside R&D like operations and service.

You will typically be involved in 2 to 3 projects or activities in parallel. In these projects you can see your mechanical designs grow from a conceptual idea to a finished product for our customers. As spokesperson for your designs you will be in contact with stakeholders throughout the organization and will communicate directly on requests related to your designs. The decisions made by you and the team you work with will have direct business impact. Your challenge will be to find solutions for technological complex mechanical problems, meeting the needs of all your stakeholders, combining short term goals with long term needs. You will report directly to the Manager R&D of the Enabling Modules and Technology Group.

Duties and responsibilities

Develop high tech constructions with cost, specifications and timing in mind.
Design for service, manufacturing and reliability
Support, steer and motivate internal and external mechanical designers(suppliers)
Define and specify new designs and drive them to results.
Organize FMEA and Safety Risk Assessments
Define test plans and strategies
Takes ownership of volume management


Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • University degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience and proven results in a similar function.
  • Experience with high tech mechanical constructions for professional industry.
  • Experience with UG-NX or other 3DCAD, FEM.
  • Experience with enclosures, hoists, seismic calculations, certifications and volume management is a preference
