Job Title: Team Leader – Packaging Operations
Role Band: 5

Reports To: Senior Manager, Secondary Manufacturing
Location: Warrington Site



Position Objective:
Responsible for the Packaging team, covering all aspects of packing finished product. Responsible for meeting production schedules and maintaining inventory at an acceptable level without back orders. Co-ordinates and implements process developments to increase efficiency or productivity utilising the PPI business system. Responsible for the training and personal development of each team member. The position impacts the availability of consistently high quality products to the customer, as well as increasing efficiency or productivity to reduce product cost.

The majority of the time is spent working alongside the team in the manufacturing areas and generally the team leader works minimal supervision according to goals and current job requirements.

Assists in the organisation and planning of daily/weekly schedules

The employment may involve tasks of a repetitive nature and manual handling. The role requires the use of manual and automated manufacturing equipment in addition to the use of office equipment, including operating a computer terminal. Tasks/activities described herein are subject to risk assessment.


Experience:
  • Past supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Experience of mechanical packaging equipment is essential.
  • Experience of coordinating production schedules

Job requirements
  • Work with and supervises members of the team on a daily basis to ensure correct procedures are adhered to and safety standards maintained. Identifies training requirements for each team member and draws up development plans. Contributes to good group morale and acceptable productivity and performance levels. Encourages new ideas and seeks means of improving existing techniques, equipment and procedures. Improves training and understanding of quality concepts as they apply to all work performed, services offered, communications and products.
  • Maintains process procedures as well as SOP's to ensure that all work instructions are current and accurate. Co-ordinates process development projects within the department to ensure that resources are available and timelines met. Assists in new equipment selection. Participates directly in the daily production operations.
  • Assists in scheduling, capacity planning and definition of long-term labour and equipment requirements.
  • Assists in technology transfer of new products (to include infrastructure set up, development of new procedures and evaluation of new equipment).
  • Co-ordinates custom products within the department to ensure timely and accurate completion of orders and provides cost quotations. Partner with relevant support functions (e.g. QA, Planning, Purchasing) to implement manufacturing improvement activities. Share best practices within the site in order to improve overall site performance.
  • Supports and complies with Company's safety and hazardous waste management programmes, including following safe hazardous waste handling and good housekeeping. Ensures the maintenance of clean, orderly and safe laboratory work areas.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • BSc or equivalent in Operations Management, Engineering or Chemistry/Biochemistry related subject is essential. An equivalent demonstrated and developed knowledge in industry may be considered as an alternative.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team as well as project planning skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of mechanical packaging machinery, preferably within a pharmaceutical environment is essential.
  • Experience of working in an ISO13485 certified environment is desirable
