For over 30 years, the group consisting of over 2,000 employees has been highly dedicated to microbiology and provided superior product performance and expert, responsive customer support to laboratories nationwide.

The Distribution Supervisor oversees the day–to–day distribution operations of the second shift distribution team, which includes support to meet customer needs by completing product shipments, ensuring regulatory compliance, and monitoring and improving operational performance. The Distribution Supervisor will assist distribution management in the development and implementation of new distribution practices, processes and technologies to improve quality and efficiency; responsible for maintaining a safe work environment.

PLEASE NOTE: This position works a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Second Shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Staff Hiring – Complete interviews for open positions and make recommendations for staff replacement and additions.
  • Staff Training – Provide orientation, coaching, and training on department processes and systems.
  • Staff Motivation – Create a team environment through motivation and positive feedback, counseling and corrective action as necessary up to and including dismissal for nonqualified or nonproductive employees (with HR assistance).
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of the ERP database as it relates to distribution responsibilities, i.e., order maintenance, inventory maintenance (outdates and cycle counting), and product backorders.
  • Inbound Receiving Process and Operations – Assure the integrity of the received materials, and maintain proper operations of established procedures (i.e., proper rotation of stock utilizing FIFO)

  • Outbound shipping processes and operations – Shipping of products in a timely, customer centric and cost-effective manner. Knowledge of LTL, UPS, FedEx, Truckload and other major and local transportation partners. As required, assists in the negotiation the best possible rates to meet company standards for customer satisfaction and freight cost control.
  • Manage daily distribution operations including, but not limited to, stock replenishment order processing, pick/pack process operations, routing and staging of customer orders, manifesting, and end of day closeout.
  • Communicate effectively with other company departments to achieve distribution operational goals, i.e., Lines/FTE, Orders/FTE, claims reduction/elimination.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and without direct daily supervision while meeting order delivery deadlines to meet customer’s requirements.
  • Assist with the returned goods processes.
  • Perform Inventory Management (IM) ensuring the integrity of the physical inventory by researching discrepancies related to delivery documents versus actual product received weekly cycle count process, QC discards, customer returns, product breakage and the completion of wall-to-wall inventory counts as necessary.
  • Communicate with CDC or appropriate departments when (Stock Replenishment Orders) STO errors are found to ensure the integrity of total company inventory.
  • Equipment maintenance – Assist in implementing and maintaining preventive maintenance programs for forklifts, power jacks, and chest freezers for ice storage.
  • Document Maintenance – Ensure that all SOP and local Operations documentation is up to date for self and employees.
  • Maintain neat and orderly work/storage areas to facilitate and expedite the flow of work, and permit maximum employee safety, efficiency and morale.
  • Perform QC/QS inspections independently, or at the request of QA/RA, to include checking fill levels, quality, quantity, breakage, loose caps, leaking, and excessive moisture as directed.
  • Comply with all Local, State and Federal regulations regarding employees.
  • Comply with safety regulations and report any actual or potential safety hazards.
  • Hold regular safety meetings with the staff to create a safe work atmosphere and promote safe actions, while minimizing/eliminating injuries.
  • Comply with regulations of the Food and Drug Administration as communicated by quality systems.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees through performance reviews making appropriate recommendations for improvement in productivity and efficiency. Emergency and after hours contact for local law enforcement, fire department, and Thermo Fisher Scientific upper management.
  • The Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007 mandates 100% screening of cargo at the piece level, originating in the U.S> and transported on passenger aircraft, by August 2010. As a result Thermo Fisher Scientific has opted to become a self screening facility Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF). Part of the screening facility assessments are Security Threat Assessments (STA) qualifications that must be adhered to. Potential new candidates must be able to successfully complete the STD certification.
  • In addition, other duties may be assigned as the need arises.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of equivalent experience in related field or Associate Degree and a minimum of 5+ years of equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Business management, Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Management, Transportation Management, Distribution logistics, or equivalent work related experience.
  • Leadership experience in Thermo Fisher’s core values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement.
  • Management, analytical and resolution skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Customer focused and driven.
  • Knowledge of MRP Systems, Microsoft Windows, Office Suite, Excel or related systems.
  • Ability to work in the a warehouse environment with and without air conditioning, cooler with temps at 40 to 45F, bending, standing, and working on concrete 10 to 12 hours per day
  • Familiar with a variety of shipping, warehousing systems/software, which would include shipping, receiving, inventory, warehousing. SAP experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of Security Threat Assessment is mandatory.
