Job Description

The R&D Manager will lead and manage staff in the expression, purification, characterization, and assay of proteins and their activity. Play a key supporting role in the development and application of cellular and molecular techniques that constitute the foundation for the biochemical methodologies underlying the company’s antibody detection platforms. Contribute to the improvement of techniques, protocols, and procedures used for studying and applying antibody-antigen interactions and to the strategic development of new technologies for future product development.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage scientific staff working on the purification and characterization of human leukocyte antigens (HLAs) and other proteins of importance for transplant diagnostics
  • Lead efforts in the development of bead-based technologies and other platforms in support of current products and new product development
  • Identify new procedures, protocols, and techniques that will enable gains in efficiency, productivity, and reliability in the expression and characterization of proteins
  • Partner with others across the organization in the identification, development, and implementation of PPI projects in support of biochemistry and cell biology
  • Contribute to the development of new strategies to assay and understand antibody-antigen interactions
  • Directly lead and, in some cases, play a key supporting role in close collaboration with colleagues in R&D and Operations in the development and improvement of biochemical and cellular techniques for antigen and antibody expression, purification, and characterization
  • Develop, implement, and perform verification and validation studies as well as other studies in support of R&D objectives
  • Write reports as needed in support of regulatory filings and internal communication

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or related discipline AND 3 years of postdoctoral experience in the discovery and development of diagnostics or therapeutics; OR master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or related discipline AND 8 years of experience discovery and development of diagnostics or therapeutics
  • Extensive experience in biochemistry and cell biology
  • Direct management of R&D staff as well as direct experience in a highly matrixed development environment
  • Strong familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Flexibility and adaptability in working in a highly dynamic, matrixed, interdependent environment
  • Strong problem solving skills as well as ability to make contributions to setting strategic direction, identifying roadblocks, and providing detail on alternative approaches to overcoming issues and problems
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, organizational and analytical skills
  • Capacity to summarize and transform data into action plans
  • Ability to represent TDX with Corporate teams and other Business Units
  • Experience managing direct reports and effectively hire, train and develop personnel
  • Ability to delegate and get involved when team needs assistance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to coordinate and communicate with multiple functional areas

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience in the expression and purification of antibodies and related proteins
