Mechanical Engineer (temporary contract)

Rodano, Milan, IT

Position Summary

Our Bulk Material Handling team is looking for a key member in the Engineering team
As a Mechanical Engineer in our Bulk Material Handling business in Rodano, Milan, you will interact daily with engineers and project managers as we provide support to our international customers in order to customize our solutions into their systems. Our collaborative team of engineers thrives on creativity and innovation.

This will be a 6 months temporary contract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use 3D CAD to create novel designs, parts, assemblies, and instruments.
  • Use GD&T to communicate allowable parts variations.
  • Release designs for production with all necessary engineering documentation.
  • Develop and review design concepts, drawings, bill of materials, and assembly processes and techniques.
  • Participate in Engineering Change processes.
  • Develop, design and implement equipment, tooling, fixturing, processes and standard work to achieve production requirements for safety, delivery and cost.
  • Provide technical support to our sales team in EU and our distributors.
  • Optimize existing equipment, processes and standard work to increase yield, reduce defects, and increase production efficiency.
  • Cooperate with Operations team to develop sourcing/in-sourcing strategies and relationships.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Fluency in English – both written and spoken (knowledge of Spanish, will be considered a plus)
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering and designing parts and assemblies for customized production.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Necessary to Perform Essential Functions
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software, 3-5 years.
  • Proficiency designing parts for machining.
  • Proficiency designing parts for sheet metal forming.
  • Proficiency using GD&T for engineering documentation.
  • Ability to understand customer needs to provide the best solution (solution selling)
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a project team environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in an international and multi-languages environment.
  • Knowledge of mining industry and process desirable.
  • Ability to complete FAT inspections.
  • Knowledge of DFMA methodology.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software.
  • Proficiency using document control process and methodology.
  • Ability to estimate completion time of design tasks.
  • Ability to estimate manufacturing costs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to follow through on tasks to completion.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willing to travel (occasionally) all around the world
  • Driving license is required

  • Propose project engineering expenditures to the limit directed by supervisor.
  • Establish implementation specifications for products, procedures and processes.
  • Propose product supplier sources for equipment or material for approval by manufacturing department.
  • Propose design changes (ECO/ECN).
Interaction with Other Employees
  • Extensive interactions with other team members on instrument design and troubleshooting.
  • Frequent contact with outside suppliers.
  • Frequent contact with outside customers.
  • Internal contacts are required both within and between departments.
  • Communication skills must be sufficient to negotiate problem resolution throughout the division and externals with customers and suppliers.
Physical/Environmental Requirements

(1) Physical Activities: Light lifting (instruments and components) occasionally required.
(2) Level of Physical Requirements: Must be able to read computer screens, paper documents, equipment outputs. No specific hearing requirements but must be able to understand and communicate highly technical information. Must be physically able to produce highly technical documentation using appropriate equipment.
(3) Level of Visual Acuity: Must be able to do visual inspection of critical components for surface defects and contaminants.
(4) Environmental Conditions: Well-lit labs and quiet engineering office.
