Job Description

The Supplier Relations Specialist will provide support to the Third Party supplier category team to drive our program’s value across the supplier community, and to achieve revenue and margin targets while improving the supplier and customer experience. The position will require daily interaction with external Third Party suppliers (typically Director or VP level) to establish, maintain, improve supplier relationships, negotiate favorable pricing, drive profitability and support operational projects, including but not limited to enhanced electronic transactions, backlog reduction, order fulfilment improvements, etc. The Supplier Relations Specialist will also work closely with Portfolio Management in the assigned industries to leverage category strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate leadership and strong relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Prospect and research suppliers and their competitors’ products to understand the market, their market share and evaluate the opportunity in order to make the best decision for our customers and our company.
  • Prepare, organize and analyze supplier information to aid in supplier discussions, negotiations and business reviews.
  • Present our value proposition to suppliers.
  • Negotiate new or improved discounted pricing with the category suppliers to achieve margin and sales improvement targets.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on new product additions including completion and submission of new product templates.
  • Submit subs and cross references on items to more profitable Encompass suppliers.
  • Liaison with suppliers to assist in resolving issues or concerns.
  • Interact with internal groups such as Portfolio Management, Finance, IT, etc. as needed.
  • Attend trade shows and visit supplier locations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience (equivalent is an additional 8 years of experience in lieu of degree) and a High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years in business, marketing or science related fields.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and concisely with strong analytical, presentation and liaison skills.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Ability to learn new technologies.
  • Familiarity with data formats, data-manipulation techniques with ability to generate reports and spreadsheets.
  • Some travel required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in supplier negotiations.
  • Experience with Cognos.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment and to adapt to changing requirements and tasks.
  • Ability to handle adverse, ambiguous and/or stressful situations with professionalism
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to prioritize work to meet schedule demands and maintain a high level of organization.
