Job Description

The applicant will participate in the research & development of analytical instruments and/or their application in a variety of end-user markets ranging from pharma/bio-pharma, environmental, food safety, life sciences, clinical and industrial.

Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Consistently and rapidly conceive, design, develop, prototype and transfer proof of principle (PoP) systems to R&D for rapid incorporation into the new product development process
  • Collaborate with colleagues and customers to develop new ideas into actionable, time-bound projects with defined scopes and budgets capable of capturing or creating new markets
  • Attend conferences on the state of the art in analytical or spectroscopic technology to further the goal of driving adoption of new technology
  • Evaluate and recommend OEM vendors, licensing and M&A opportunities
  • Analyze, evaluate and report on new and/or competitive technologies including but not limited to publications, patents and applications
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • B.S., M.S. or PHD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry with up to 5 years work experience
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions


  • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally to consistently and rapidly conceive, develop, execute and complete short-term high-tech research projects relevant to the business on-time and on-budget
  • Ability to consistently think creatively to scope and propose new projects across multiple spectroscopic subject areas including but not limited to infrared, raman, software, microanalysis, UV Vis and fluorescence
  • Demonstrated ability to work highly independently while maintaining regular stakeholder contact for updates and discussions
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate and deliver completion time and budget for projects
  • Ability to use scientific principles and methods to understand, anticipate, test, and resolve technical challenges that cross engineering and scientific disciplines
  • Ability to evaluate and summarize new technology opportunities including OEM, vendor and M&A
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Windows, MS Office proficiency


  • MatLab experience
  • Chemistry or physics background
  • Experience designing chromatography & mass spectrometry or analytical systems
  • Experience in signal acquisition and digital signal processing
  • High level of comfort speaking with sales, marketing and customers to understand critical technical needs that drive the business
