The Mechanical Engineer I/II is responsible for supporting the launch of new products, projects, and processes central to the success of the R&D organization and FEI. Reporting to the ME Manager, the Mechanical Engineer I/II will work closely with engineers and scientists of diverse backgrounds to design mechanical components and sub-assemblies for highly customized, multi-million dollar microscopes with sub-nanometer resolution for the semiconductor, data storage, solar, and MEMS markets.
Specific Deliverables associated with this opportunity include:
o Lead the design of highly customized, multi-million dollar microscopes and subsystems with sub-nanometer resolution by working closely with, and learning from, world class Marketing, Project Management, Operations, suppliers, and engineers and scientists of diverse backgrounds.
o Develop and manage engineering requirements and specifications.
o Make and meet project cost, schedule, and quality commitments.
o Concept, layout, and detail designs with analysis and testing as appropriate.
o Manage suppliers and contract or junior engineers.o Module integration, validation, and troubleshooting. Support module and product transitions to production.
o Act as a subject matter expert for precision mechanical systems and semiconductor capital equipment, providing key technical feedback and decision making.
This position is ideal for a creative and thorough Mechanical Engineer who can easily transition from one priority to the next with limited direct supervision. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of completing projects with a high level of innovation, communication, quality and efficiency. The selected candidate, when presented with a project, will be able to gather requirements, coordinate work with others, lead junior engineers or contractors, design and document in the CAD/PDM system, assemble and test the design, and take responsibility for its success.
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with at least 5 years leading the design and manufacture of semiconductor capital equipment.
• Precision machine design including wafer or parts handling, robotics, exact constraint design.
• Automation, error budgeting, tolerance analysis, materials selection, and formal problem solving techniques.
