Job Title - Regional Manager, Global Trade Compliance/Paralegal

The successful candidate will have dual responsibilities:

  • The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to drive trade compliance excellence across the region/shared service through adherence to applicable US and local laws and regulations pertaining to international trade and ensuring compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific corporate, divisional, and local policies; and
  • The candidate’s secondary responsibility will be to review, negotiate, or draft contracts and facilitate the resolution of various legal issues to allow Thermo Fisher Scientific to enter into agreements with suppliers, customers, and distributors, and work with the Regional Senior Corporate Counsel and others in the Legal Department to provide guidance to the business on a range of substantive legal areas, including government contracts, commercial law, and public tenders.
Core responsibilities
Global Trade Compliance
The candidate will be expected to:
  • develop and implement training and qualification programs in partnership with the Corporate GTC Team including attendance at the Corporate GTC Team workshops for all import/export personnel in scope;
  • support all regional sites to develop efficient, effective, and appropriate procedures to support compliance with US and local import and export regulations and corporate and local global trade compliance management systems;
  • manage the local divisional import and export personnel, including working with site senior management;
  • collaborate with Corporate GTC Team and local resources, including Senior Management, Commercial, Logistics, Finance, Sourcing, etc., to drive strategic direction of trade compliance processes to ensure robust compliance management that meets current requirements of all countries and regions with which business is being conducted;
  • participate in regular meetings/trainings with the Corporate GTC Team and disseminate communications and/or training to the relevant personnel within the region and communicate any issues requiring escalation to the Corporate GTC Team;
  • keep abreast of US and local laws and regulations of the assigned region and provide leadership and training to all businesses with transactions to or from that region;
  • develop and conduct regular global trade compliance trainings across businesses and functions is required;
  • use metrics to develop complex logistic and transportation models;
  • manage regional level standards and processes including customer screening, import and export classification processes, compliance documentation, and listing of controlled products; and
  • interface with freight forwarders, US customs officers, custom brokers, internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to customs and import and export regulations.
The candidate will be expected to:
  • understand the global and regional templates, policies, processes, and procedures and explain and promote template to the business
  • review, negotiate, and finalize Thermo Fisher Scientific and third party agreements;
  • liaise with other functions to ensure business continuity, compliance, and risk mitigation;
  • educate and train employees regarding templates, processes, and procedures;
  • manage multiple stakeholders in a highly matrixed and interdependent environment;
  • align with leadership to accomplish business goals and strategic objectives; and
  • display uncompromising attention to detail.
The candidate will be expected to:
  • possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to work and manage in a high energy, fast paced environment;

  • lead group projects with members and stake holders;

Other requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Transportation/Logistics, Business, International Trade, and/or Law.
  • 8-10 years experience in compliance management with demonstrated experience managing compliance activities in a multi-national company.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of work time.
