The Engineering Data Management group executes selection, prioritization and implementation of Engineering Changes (ECO) within the Engineering Organization at Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Designer/Drafter executes Engineering Changes after products are transferred to volume production through the product end of life.


The Position

The Engineering Designer/Drafter creates new documentation and follows archiving and change process rules for all Thermo Fisher engineering data. The position collaborates closely with Engineering, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), R&D, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality and Technical Service Support groups within Thermo Fisher to archive and maintain engineering data throughout the product lifecycle.

Specific deliverables associated with this position include:

- Entry level Design work
- Executes selected engineering changes.
- Supports Technical Service Support with product escalations and/or ECO implementation as necessary.
- Ensures that ECO process WIP (work in progress), cycle time and other targets are being met within his scope of activity.
- May participate on cross-functional improvement and other Operations projects from inception to completion.
- Develops close relationships with Manufacturing, Logistics, Sourcing, NPI (new product introduction) Engineering, GTS (technical service), PLM (product lifecycle management), Quality and R&D to adequately resolve technical conflicts.
- Acts as a contributor to peers and project resources to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
- Ensure that activities are carried out according to the principle of “Customer focus in all that we do”.
- Adhere to work safety, fire safety, and other regulatory standards.
- Other duties as assigned


The Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

- Typically requires a 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills. Technical experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Requires experience with CAD design.
- Siemens NX knowledge and drafting in a manufacturing environment is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to participate on small projects.
- Ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of cross-functional groups.
- Ability to work on a multi-cultural team.
- Must demonstrate ability to create technical documentation using common Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications.
- Ability to analyze data and execute basic problem solving.
- Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required.
- Must be able to work in clean room environment.
- Professional working proficiency in English (verbal and in writing).
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
