Job Description
Position Summary
The Materials Manager has responsibility for managing, for a key group, all sourcing activities including materials management, shipping / receiving (import and export compliance) and buyer / planner activities. Will operate utilizing Lean, quality-focused metrics and approaches that meet or exceed business objectives. Direct reports include Shipping, Receiving and Buyer / Planner positions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for logistics, sourcing savings, inventory value, inventory control, Kanban, supplier management, material costs and work orders that support the Radiation Measurement & Security Instruments goals and customer requirements.
  • Manages the manufacturing site’s sourcing activities, including but not limited to, working in conjunction with the global sourcing organization to develop and implement business strategies impacting supply chain consolidation, cost reduction, quality improvement as well as supplier assessment and associated scorecard activities.
  • Responsible for Sourcing SIOP activities
  • Manages the Buyer / Planners and Shipping / Receiver group.
  • In conjunction with global sourcing organization, ensures supplier scorecards are documented and reviewed with key suppliers on a quarterly basis.
  • Drives supplier corrective action as related to site based quality and delivery issues.
  • Implements processes to reach attainment of sourcing goals including, but not limited to, sourcing savings, LCM/LCR, HLA/TLA, strategic supplier spend, inventory compliance and payables compliance
  • Identifies key areas of opportunity to drive aggregate cost and quality improvements. .
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the MRP System.
  • Identifies raw material, component and sub-assembly requirements for production from engineering and production specifications and schedules.
  • Prepares and places purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements.
  • Analyzes data to implement and sustain Kanban activities.
  • Drives new product introduction planning and associated product obsolescence and change activities as related to planning and materials management. This includes participating in the implementation and maintenance of Bills of Materials into associated planning and inventory systems in order to maintain part/product trace ability and inventory integrity.
  • Analyzes inventory usage, scrap and shrinkage, and coordinates any appropriate corrective action.
  • Analyzes data management or drives resolution of problems concerning over shipments, shortages, engineering changes and cancellation of orders.
  • Advises management of issues with materials availability and potential production problems and coordinates any appropriate corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensures ISO compliance for all processes related to materials management including import/export compliance. .
  • Participates in long-term process and system (may include implementation of SAP or similar business enterprise systems) changes to improve planning and execution of orders while simultaneously minimizing plant inventory.
  • Participates in physical inventory and cycle count programs.
  • Supports transition to a lean manufacturing environment, demand pull systems and Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Manages the manufacturing schedule so that resources are optimized and delivery to customer requirements is assured
  • Provides manufacturing with the essential information needed to execute the schedule
  • Evaluates and escalates capacity constraints to Director Operations, Customer Service, appropriate functional managers or other essential team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Supplier Sourcing in a Lean, (Kanban, demand pull, point of use environment).
  • BA/BS degree a plus.
  • Demonstrate a track record of being a motivator, facilitator and a leader.
  • Strong MRP experience.
  • Excellent communication, computer, reporting, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams in a matrix organization required
  • Experience in initiating and leading process improvement projects
