International Women's Day
Thermo Fisher Scientific celebrates our women in leadership.
Jo has been growing with Thermo Fisher for 12.5 years. She joined us as a Marketing Manager. “I obtained my Science degree in biological sciences at Melbourne University and then moved into roles with marketing and commercial business development focus in the consumer and agency sector, over this time I also completed my Masters in Commerce. I joined Thermo Fisher in a local marketing role, and progressively took on larger marketing roles as we increased the scope of region and the scope of the portfolio through acquisitions/changes in go to market strategy. This time included digital marketing leadership across Asia and prior to this role I was the APJ Regional Marketing Manager for Life Sciences. I have been in my current role as Commercial Director for 2.5 years.”
“Enjoyment in working with people to succeed or build a skill. Facilitating a group through and energizing discussion. Authenticity, I really believe in this organization and our people.”
“Leadership in the Matrix: a constant challenge of working in the matrix and navigating the stakeholder landscape to move things forward. Spending time to understand who is who and how and when they would like to be engaged is important in helping manage this. Also, building a team across a large diverse geographic territory (APJ) was a major challenge. I like to use the Pat Lencioni model, 5 Dysfunctions of a Team, along with the MBTI approach to build trust and connections.”
“The balance between family and work life has required sacrifices, especially when traveling extensively can mean you are inevitably away during key events. To balance this I take time each day on the road to connect with my family, to really talk with my kids, as well as use the opportunity to help them have a more global view of the world, talk with them about where I am, the culture as well as the location, it is also an opportunity to build their independence.”
“Develop your own view of what you admire in great leaders, male or female, and choose the aspects you want to develop in yourself. By developing qualities you believe in, you will be a more authentic and inspirational leader.”
