Careers at ThermoFisher Scientific

My work is a story of Security

Building a team to protect our business

Erik,

VP, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

In July 2016, I joined Thermo Fisher Scientific as the Chief Information Security Officer. I was attracted to the company’s values and mission statement, the leadership team’s support of Cybersecurity, and the opportunity to grow the existing security program from where it was to where it needed to be.

Coming to Thermo Fisher Scientific was exciting, but a bit daunting to me. Its size (roughly 75,000 employees) and complexity were something that I had dealt with for many years at my previous employer, but I had never worked in the Life Sciences and instrument manufacturing space. Building our cybersecurity program was something I had the blueprints for, but something new that I was going to have to introduce was “Product Security”.

I quickly put in place my vision, mission, and strategy for the coming year ahead and began getting the team assembled and focused on impactful projects. I placed a lot of attention on recruiting a diverse set of talented candidates who embodied a strong work ethic and individuals who thrive in an intense, fast-paced environment. I believe in building a team that not only shares a passion for cybersecurity, but individuals with an eye for detail, a friendly “team-first” attitude, and a customer-service mindset when dealing with the business. I realize that most security organizations are the “Dr. No” of the IT world and I don’t stand for not wanting to help the business be successful…as long as it’s done in a secure manner.

Over the past year, our team has grown substantially with a diverse set of talented people working towards the continuous improvement of our cybersecurity capabilities at Thermo Fisher Scientific. We have also celebrated a recent global expansion project by opening our first offshore Security Operations Center (SOC) in Singapore to help support our “follow the sun” model and support the growth of our business in Asia.

As we grow, we will continue to focus on building and maintaining a strong Cybersecurity program that will work to defend our company against the dynamic cyber threats that we all face today.

If you are ready to join a Cybersecurity team dedicated to protecting a 75,000+ employee global company, apply to Thermo Fisher Scientific today!
