In June 2015, Thermo Fisher Scientific was recognized as a finalist for the 2015 Wealth of Health Awards by the Rochester Business Journal. Twenty-one companies and organizations were considered for the awards, determined by number of employees.
Walk at Work
Our Rochester team was considered for their devotion to health and wellness at work. Not to be taken lightly, we partnered with the American Heart Association to map out three walking paths at our Penfield facility. The map was distributed to the team, providing the opportunity for a lunch break or post-work walk ranging from a quarter mile to a mile and a half.
Walking has long been encouraged at Thermo Fisher. Last year, we were able to provide participants in a month-long company program a pedometer to track their steps and then later award frequent walkers with prizes for their activity. The program succeeded in getting 12 percent of the local workforce involved—they logged over 39 million steps at the end of the month! In addition, we host local health and fitness experts to educate our employees on fitness.
Nutrition at Work
Fitness alone isn’t the answer, right? In an effort to encourage healthy eating, Thermo Fisher offers healthy food items at the company cafeteria, as well as healthy vending machine options. Throughout the year, we also offer seminars with a local food vendor to give employees healthy eating tips, recipes and advice.
In addition to programs and seminars, the Thermo Fisher Wellness Team strives to keep employees educated about both exercise and diet tips with newsletters, posters, brochures and meetings.
“Thermo Fisher Scientific’s mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We take pride in offering programs to help our employees be healthier through our series of wellness programs.”
