Bring your best self to the application process

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our Mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

We know that many candidates are using artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of their job search, application preparation, and interview readiness. When used thoughtfully, AI can be a valuable resource for organizing ideas, improving communication, and building confidence throughout the hiring process.

We encourage candidates to use AI responsibly while ensuring that all application materials, assessments, and interview interactions remain authentic and reflective of their own experiences, qualifications, skills, and accomplishments.

We want to get to know the person behind the application, not content generated by a tool.

Our expectations

AI can support your preparation, but it should not replace your judgment, experiences, or personal perspective. Throughout the hiring process, candidates are expected to:

Meta card 1

Accurately represent their qualifications, skills, and experience
Meta card 2

Provide truthful information in applications, assessments, and interviews
Meta card 3

Review and validate any
AI-generated content before using it
Meta card 4

Take responsibility for all materials submitted as part of their application
Meta card 4

Ensure their responses and work reflect their own knowledge, experiences, and abilities

The strongest applications help us understand the individual behind the resume and the unique contributions they may bring to our teams.

How AI can support your job search

AI can be a helpful tool when used to support your preparation and professional development.
Meta card 1

Explore Career Opportunities

AI can help you identify roles aligned with your interests, experience, and career goals.
Examples:
  • Discover related job titles
  • Learn about skills commonly associated with a role
  • Explore career paths within a field of interest
Meta card 2

Improve Resume and Application Materials

AI can help improve clarity, organization, and readability. Any information included in your application should accurately reflect your own background and accomplishments.

Examples:

  • Reviewing grammar and spelling

  • Suggesting clearer wording

  • Identifying opportunities to better highlight relevant experience

  • Improving organization and formatting

Meta card 3

Prepare for Interviews

AI can be useful for practicing and organizing your thoughts before an interview.

Examples:

  • Generating practice interview questions

  • Helping structure responses using your own experiences

  • Identifying topics to research before an interview

  • Suggesting thoughtful questions to ask recruiters or hiring managers

Meta card 4

Learn and Develop

AI can help you better understand industries, functions, technical concepts, and professional skills relevant to your career interests.

Example ways to use AI responsibly

The following examples illustrate how AI can support your preparation while keeping your experience and perspective at the center of the process.

"Based on my background in quality assurance and my interest in life sciences, what types of roles should I explore?"

"What skills are commonly required for a field applications scientist role?"

"Review these resume bullet points and suggest ways to improve clarity without changing the facts."

"Identify areas where my resume could better highlight the experience I have already included."

"Generate practice interview questions based on this job description."

"Help me organize my response to a behavioral interview question using examples from my own experience."

"What are some thoughtful questions I could ask an interviewer about this role and team?"

"Summarize publicly available information about Thermo Fisher Scientific's business and Mission."

"What are some recent industry trends that may be relevant to this role?"

"Based on this job description, what skills might help someone prepare for a similar role in the future?"

"What learning resources could help me strengthen my knowledge of this field?"

Uses of AI that are not appropriate

While AI can be a valuable tool, there are situations where its use may not align with our expectations for authenticity and integrity.

Candidates should not use AI to:
  • Create or exaggerate skills, certifications, credentials, or experience
  • Fabricate accomplishments, projects, research, or employment history
  • Present AI-generated information as personal experience when it is not

Application materials should reflect your own experiences, perspectives, and qualifications.

Candidates should not rely solely on AI-generated content without reviewing, validating, and personalizing it.

Unless specifically permitted as part of a recruiting process or approved accommodation, candidates should not use AI tools to generate responses on their behalf during interviews, assessments, or other evaluations.  Nothing in this guidance is intended to limit the use of approved accessibility accommodations or assistive technologies.

We are interested in understanding how candidates communicate, think through challenges, and apply their experiences.

Candidates remain responsible for complying with confidentiality obligations and should avoid including confidential third-party information in application materials or AI tools used for preparation.

AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or outdated information.

Candidates are responsible for reviewing and validating any information they choose to use.

Why authenticity matters

Preparation, curiosity, and continuous learning are all important parts of a successful career journey.

We believe AI can support each of these.

But the most compelling applications are those that genuinely reflect the person behind them, including their experiences, achievements, perspectives, and potential.

Technology can help you prepare for opportunities. It cannot replace the value of your unique background and contributions.

A simple rule of thumb

We encourage candidates to use available tools thoughtfully, prepare with confidence, and bring their authentic selves to every stage of the hiring process.

Before submitting an application, participating in an interview, or completing an assessment, ask yourself:

"Does this accurately reflect my own experience, qualifications, and work?"

If the answer is yes, AI is likely being used appropriately.

If the answer is no, or if the content could mislead others about your abilities or experience, it should not be used.
