My career journey:

From intern to Lead Accounts Payable Representative

Meet Reni, a Lead Accounts Payable Representative at our Budapest site, and get to know how she started her career as an intern.

What made you choose Thermo Fisher Scientific for an internship?

I studied at the Corvinus University of Budapest in the faculty of Business Administration and Management. I was looking for an opportunity to work with purpose and to make an impact, and was drawn to Thermo Fisher's Mission - to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. I applied to the opening and joined Thermo Fisher as an HR trainee in 2019 to complete my last semester and my internship program at the university.

After half a year, I got the opportunity to continue my career in the Finance Team, so I became an Accounts Payable Representative.

What were some of your tasks as an Accounts Payable Representative?

Our AP Team is responsible for managing (3rd party) vendor invoices: receiving, processing, and posting invoices for payment as soon as possible. We manage many European entities (e.g. German, Dutch, French, Swiss, Italian) and constantly coordinate and partner with local offices and colleagues to complete daily tasks and solve cases more efficiently.

After 1 year, I participated in a big project when our team moved to a new entity from Germany - this was one of my favorite periods since I learned a lot and could acquire a wider knowledge in this financial area.

What does your career journey look like now?

I started my career at Thermo Fisher as an HR trainee, but after 7 months I wanted to try out something new. One of the things that I love at this company is that you can challenge yourself in new roles and fields - so I went on to join the Finance team as an Accounts Payable Representative.

Thanks to my leaders, I could continuously improve myself by participating in new projects, having new challenges, and getting the opportunity to train other people for all the new things I have learned.

Thanks to their trust and support, after the SME position I became an Accounts Payable Team Leader in 3 years.

What advice do you have for someone looking to start their story at Thermo Fisher as an intern?

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, there are many fields and opportunities to start your career after college or university; you can acquire practical, competitive, and confident knowledge from your colleagues who will support you from the first moment, and this is a place where you can always share your ideas and innovative thoughts.

Be creative and open to new opportunities, and you will definitely enjoy the journey.
