As a QA Auditor in the Vaccine Sciences department at Thermo Fisher Scientific, I support the lab in ensuring the accuracy and quality of their data. I review data entries and proofread documents to help ensure that safe, reliable vaccines are approved by the government for everyday usage.
I first heard about our QA opportunities through one of my friends who worked in the lab. I was initially attracted to the job security that is provided by working in an environment that is not dictated by grants. My friend also spoke highly of the caliber of teamwork and the genuinely good people who work at the organization. During my experience here, I have greatly enjoyed the variety of work, and each day there is a new puzzle to solve. I am fulfilled by the sense of accomplishment in working with such a proactive team.
In addition to the variety of the work at hand, I am continuously impressed by the commitment to support employees through diverse and inclusive business resource groups, intersectionality discussions, mentorship programs and much more. This is the first company I have worked at in which I genuinely feel supported and like I am making a difference in my community.
I have utilized our business resource groups by serving on the PossAbilities board and currently serve on the PRIDE+ board where it is a pleasure to work with colleagues – and organization leaders – who want to further support minoritized groups. A few examples of the impact made by these groups include policy changes to enact more inclusive dress codes and laying the groundwork for the addition of more all-gender restrooms across campuses. It is incredible to see the teamwork put in by colleagues and the openness to generate dialogue on complex topics.
