Product Manager, Data Science
Thermo Fisher Scientific is dedicated to enhancing the health, cleanliness, and safety of the world. This Product Manager opportunity within our Data Science Center of Excellence provides an exciting chance to lead an outstanding team of data scientists. You will play a direct role in implementing innovative data solutions that uncover new revenue streams and growth opportunities. As the voice of the customer (Thermo Fisher's Sales Teams), you'll shape and guide business outcomes, but you will not perform hands-on data science work or lead their scientific and engineering approach to the business problems you queue.
Onsite Role in Pittsburgh, PA
No relocation available
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary link between Scrum team (data scientists) and your customers (marketing and sales teams across Thermo Fisher Scientific).
- Operate as the product owner of our Intelligence Generation Scrum Team.
- Communicate with collaborators to incorporate their needs in the product backlog, keeping them updated.
- Examine and detail the business's current operations, find gaps, assess readiness for change, and see potential for new capabilities.
- Own prioritization of the Scrum team-level product backlog with some priorities inherited from the parent program roadmap and release plan.
- Validate backlog deliverables are complete by defining acceptance criteria and ensuring criteria have been met by the Scrum team upon deployment to users.
- Increase the value of the team’s product portfolio – data science models that empower Thermo Fisher sales and marketing teams.
- Ensure there is enough “ready” product backlog items to keep the team of data scientists at maximum efficiency level.
- Represent the team in program-level product owner sync-ups to coordinate and communicate shifting priorities and verify alignment with program and enterprise vision.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in product management, computer science, computer engineering, marketing, statistics, data analytics, or equivalent.
- Passion for innovation and vision for product – digital data science intelligence generation for commercial sales and marketing.
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a product manager.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as member of a Scrum team, with at least 1 year as a product owner.
- Excellent analytical abilities.
- Highly effective communicator.
- Ability to balance the long-term “big picture” with the near-term implications of immediate decisions.
- Ability to analyze situations, apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, detailed, and creative solutions.
- Strong teammate with outstanding leadership skills.
- Self-starter with experience working within, influencing within, and networking within the political climate of a large matrixed organization.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).
- Knowledge of Atlassian tools (i.e., Jira, Confluence).
- Hands-on data experience (e.g., SQL, data modeling, data analysis).
