VP, Strategy and Corporate Development
Leads the development, execution and governance of strategic initiatives with the ultimate responsibility for setting enterprise priorities and developing a strategic framework to enable Clinical Research Group to ensure its long-term competitiveness. Progresses the CEO company’s strategic business agenda and the continuous evolution of the sophistication in board materials. Provides leadership to the Strategy Team in strategy formulation and operationalizing strategic initiatives. Leads competitive assessments bringing an external benchmarking industry perspective to turn market and customer insights into strategies for growth and industry leadership. Collaborates with Group President and Senior Leadership Team on corporate strategy to achieve aggressive growth targets and objectives.

Ideal candidate will have a consulting or investment banking background plus experience in Pharma/Biotech/CRO leading strategy teams.

A day in the Life:

  • Provides leadership to the Strategy Team through effective staffing and performance management. Develops the team with an eye toward infusing top talent into the organization.

  • Leads with strong competitive and business intelligence converting innovative strategies into profitability & business growth.

  • Partners with multiple stakeholders to develop new business models that support CRG’s growth, corporate strategy, improves organizational performance and client success.

  • Successfully integrates new and emerging industry trends with business line strategy.

  • Collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders and advises on the executive decision process regarding M&A.

  • Successfully navigates politicized situations and exercises influence at senior levels to gain executive buy-in and alignment around key strategic priorities.

  • Manages the Strategy department budget.

  • Plays a pivotal role in progressing the group president’s agenda and the continuous evolution of the sophistication in board materials.

  • Proactively and continuously assesses relevant marketplaces and dynamics, customers and competitors to enable strategic decisions across the enterprise.

  • Leverages data-driven planning to ensure full integration and alignment of enterprise strategic initiatives.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree required.

Experience

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job, comparable to 15+ years of progressive experience with a combination of consulting, corporate strategy, innovation and/or analysis

  • 8+ years of leadership responsibility.

  • Or equivalent combination of education, training & experience. Significant and measurable contribution to growing an organization’s revenue and profit margin.

  • A strategist with comprehensive analysis and strategic planning skills

  • Influential with the ability to create a compelling business case that outlines strategic opportunities and convince management to pursue new ideas

  • Strong project management leadership skills with the ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to build and lead teams across multiple disciplines

  • Exhibits deep intellectual curiosity

  • Ability to drive proactive change within the organization

  • Thorough understanding of sponsor/CRO business practices and strong knowledge of CRG operational/financial practices and relevant regulatory guidelines

Management Role
Manager role with significantly larger management scope (e.g. global or regional responsibilities or multiple departments) OR mastery of manager skills and responsibilities as demonstrated by consistent, multi-year successful performance. In some instances may be responsible for a functional area (as determined by executive management) and not have subordinate supervisors or employees.
