Location/Division

The Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) Electron Microscopy business, enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries which can ultimately change the world. The MSD EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy solutions that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.

How can you make a difference to our business?

The Applications Development Scientist role is an exciting and rewarding role and is dedicated to the development and release of new applications that deliver fast, reliable characterization solutions for our customers. These applications will extend across the full materials science DualBeam product portfolio and its application solutions and workflows. The DualBeam Applications Development Scientist will work alongside the applications Development team but will also work closely with the DualBeam Product Marketing, Business Unit management and the R&D teams to ensure new product developments are better able to meet our customers’ needs in a way that is consistent with solving the customers characterization needs.

What will you do!

  • Evaluate and find new application solutions for viability. Plan and drive applications support throughout the entire Product Management Process (PMP)
  • Ensure that the value propositions of the DualBeam platforms are verified, and the customer challenge is addressed. Build customer-centric marketing content to prove these value propositions and ensure go-to market strategies are aligned with this.
  • Fully engage with end customers to fully comprehend application needs and challenges. Together with the product marketing manager build and write Market Requirement Documents MRDs.
  • Act as the customer and application advocate within the product development process with R&D. Collect, compile, and evaluate test data to resolve appropriate limits and variables for testing speed, accuracy, and precision of application workflows
  • Perform internal and customer workshops and trainings on Thermo Fisher's new applications. Define and lead execution of key customer collaborations that are required for workflow solution development, validation, and relevant publications.
  • Provide guidance and technical support on product use to internal sales, service, and engineering teams. Develop documentation and user guides for application implementation and training of customers by field applications specialists.
  • Recommend and steer future technical decision making for potential applications or use of products consistent with customer requirements.
  • Coordination development and submission of conference abstracts supporting marketing programs for new product introductions

The experience we are looking for:

Education

  • Minimum education requirement is a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific field, although PhD is preferred (for example: Materials Science, Physics or Chemical Engineering).
  • Minimum of 5+ years using DualBeam and its instrumentation (operation, theory, and technique)
  • Experience interacting with highly technical high-end customers. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated comfort with working in both academic, industrial environments
  • Consistent track record to systematically develop new and improved methods and protocols used in a failure analysis, characterization, and experimental environment.
  • Should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide critical interfaces between Customers, Product Marketing, R&D, and engineering within the factory.
  • Independence: Ability to independently diagnose, define and deliver solutions in highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability to impart application specific knowledge internally and externally.
  • Thrives in a diverse team, that strive to deliver product improvement for our customers.
  • Enjoys being exposed to a constant variety of sophisticated issues that need to be resolved.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally up to maximum 25%.
