Q&A with Nick, Account Manager

What attracted you to join the Sales Development Program (SDP) with Thermo Fisher Scientific?

Coming out of college, I lacked the overall experience required for most entry level sales positions. Despite lacking that experience, I shared the same drive, competitive spirit, and skillset of those already in the industry. The Sales Development Program (SDP) is tailored toward individuals who have just that and is meant to give you that extra boost to succeed – that was what brought me here.

What has been a major contributor to your growth throughout the program?

The relationships during the program have been most important as a factor in my growth. Especially in such a large company, networking and building relationships is so important as it allows you to have a web of collaborative and helpful people to help you progress both personally and in your career. Through the SDP program I immediately gained a small network of coworkers who were in a similar place as myself, but with different experiences and backgrounds. This immediately provided me with a sense of belonging and gave me an immediate team to bounce ideas and questions off of. I was also able to add leadership across different teams to my network that helped me to define my career goals and push me to another level of success. As an SDP participant, you are given the chance to interact with so many colleagues as soon as you start which proved to be incredibly valuable and rewarding.

What advice would you give someone who wants to apply to the SDP, but does not have a sales background?

Apply. If you’re considering it and you feel like you can succeed, you shouldn’t let your experience dictate whether you apply or not. The SDP is designed to help get you that experience from the start and set you up to succeed in a sales role, regardless of your background experience. Don’t be afraid to apply. Your job as a candidate is to express why you are right for the job, and if you believe that you are nothing should stop you from going for it.

Q&A with Nalexus, Sales Representative

What attracted you to join the Sales Development Program (SDP) with Thermo Fisher Scientific?

As an undergraduate student, who was heavily involved in research, Thermo Fisher Scientific is brand that I frequently saw in labs. I knew that Thermo Fisher Scientific was a very reputable company, so when I heard about their Sales Development Program (SDP), I was instantly curious to learn more! The SDP really stood out to me because it is tailored toward college graduates with a strong science background and no sales experience. As someone who loves science and working with people, I knew this program was made for me!

What has been a major contributor to your growth throughout the program?

Mentorship was a major contributor to my growth throughout the program! I really value the connections that the SDP gives participants. Not only are you given an actual mentor, but also the ability to connect with many other individuals in the company that are eager to share their story and help you create your own! I was able to gain knowledge and insight from various individuals who have all had their own unique experience and this really made a difference in my development throughout the program.

What advice would you give someone who wants to apply to the SDP, but does not have a sales background?

The SDP will give you all the tools that you need to be successful in a sales role, regardless of your background! As a person who did not have any type of sales background when the program began, I felt more than ready to take on career in sales upon completion of the program!

Q&A with Tyler, Inside Sales Representative

What attracted you to join the Sales Development Program (SDP) with Thermo Fisher Scientific?

As a recent graduate, it was very attractive to enter a training program among peers who shared similar experience levels. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect and build relationships with your colleagues who are in the same position as you and may have similar questions and concerns.

What has been a major contributor to your growth throughout the program?

The curriculum itself has been a major contributor of both professional and personal growth throughout the program. It allows you to learn at a pace that does not feel overwhelmed. The hands-on training experience throughout the program provided me with the knowledge and confidence to feel comfortable and capable in my position upon offboarding. Mentors and connections made throughout the program allow you to build relationships with colleagues outside of the program, who seemingly always make themselves available to help!

What advice would you give someone who wants to apply to the SDP, but does not have a sales background?

Be patient with yourself. The more you communicate with customers, the more comfortable you will feel. It is just like riding a bike, and the SDP is the training wheels. When you are finished with the program, you will feel ready to go without the training wheels!
