The collaborative spirit of my colleagues and the innovative work we do related to software engineering has provided me a fulfilling career at Thermo Fisher. Working in R&D (managing a product backlog of Agile SCRUM team), I’ve seen firsthand how many individual ideas come together to form a brilliant idea that has never been done before. Our Cascadion SM Clinical Analyzer is the first fully automated clinical analyzer with Liquid Chromatography (LC) / Mass Spectrometery (MS) technology designed to meet the needs of routine clinical laboratories. Testing samples are often prepared separately for analysis but we have created an analyzer that combines high-end technologies to provide accurate results with ease of use. Providing accurate results quickly is crucial for clinical laboratories and has an impact on lives around the world.
The cross-functional nature of our team has been vital to the success of this project. Our team of colleagues represent software development, usability, mechanical engineering and verification & validation (V&V) functions to be able to see multiple perspectives. It allows us to identify and resolve issues easily while seeing all change impacts. Everyone is always open to hearing new ideas, challenging them constructively and then collaborating to bring the ideas to life. We always want learn from our challenges and then do things better – a truly inspiring culture.
