When I first came to Thermo Fisher Scientific I was a student developing analytical methods for my doctoral thesis in environmental chemistry. One morning, I had an idea for a new interface that would connect two of the instruments I was using for my studies. By the end of that day, I had built a (very rough!) prototype that I could test and show my colleagues. The R&D director liked the concept and encouraged me to take over the development of this project. Although I was new and inexperienced, the R&D team welcomed my ideas with an open mind and guided me when I needed direction. This project taught me the value of motivation, teamwork and how inspiring a small group of people can be when they come together to share their expertise.
I’m so grateful I was given the opportunity to develop my idea. Although it was a small development project, it was my very first and will always carry a strong emotional value for me! This experience motivated me to pursue a career at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Today I manage the development of optical spectrometers in a team of brilliant, hard-working colleagues. I am currently leading a project that uses groundbreaking technology to change the way high-end analytical instruments are used and perceived – to be launched soon! There isn’t a day where I don’t learn something new from my work and from my colleagues that are deeply knowledgeable in so many different fields.
When you’re ready to move forward in your career, you’ll discover that at Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our extraordinary minds has a unique story to tell. And we all contribute to a singular Mission—to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.
