What mentoring means to me:
To me, mentorship is a partnership that is mutually beneficial. It is a two-way street built on trust, transparency and accountability.

Mentorship means that I can learn from the experiences of others without having to live them myself. In addition, it is a reminder that someone else is invested in my future success together with me.

Have a trusted friend, advisor, and career coach to discuss opportunities for personal & professional development and career navigation in a continually changing business environment, preferably in a way that’s mutually beneficial to both of us.

Thoughts on the AH BRG Mentoring Program:
My mentorship experience paired me with someone who quickly taught me the value of authenticity, knowing your worth and staying true to your core values.
I went into the mentorship program with my own professional goals. My mentor and I were open about work experiences and personal experiences during our time together. As a result, I was able to develop in both aspects.

Career aspiration in the next year:
To elevate my leadership development, growth, and impact to the organization, those around me, and to our customers.

Fun Fact:
The first job I wanted as a kid was to be a race car driver. That clearly did not work out, but I enjoy riding motorcycles and have been riding for about 15 years now.
Brandon, Digital Forensic Examiner
What mentoring means to me:
Mentoring is the creation of an honest relationship where healthy and meaningful dialogue is exchanged to form a safe space to discuss topics, ideas, or concerns authentically.  Mentoring is a fruitful experience when it’s driven by purpose, intention, and gratitude.

Thoughts on the AH BRG Mentoring Program:
My career aspirations are geared towards leadership and transitioning into a people manager role.  During the mentorship program, one of the game-changing exercises my mentor recommended was to create a time-bound career roadmap, with the key competencies outlined for each role.  Writing down the steps to make each element of my personal vision a reality holds me accountable for me.  Since I’ve wrote it down, I’m focused on following through!

Career aspiration in the next year:
The mentorship program had a momentous impact on my personal life and career trajectory.  My mentor and I have built a genuine relationship of trust, transparency, and appreciation for one another, that has continued after the official mentorship program ended.  Our interactions over the nine-month program and beyond have been invaluable and enjoyable.  I consider the knowledge and insight obtained through our conversations as an intangible asset that will further appreciate and add value to my personal growth throughout my career.

Fun Fact:
My most passionate hobby and talent is landscaping.  I ran a professional landscaping company for over 10 years. And, shockingly, I’ve never tried seafood.

What mentoring means to me:
Mentoring is not letting others make the same mistakes as you did by empowering them with the knowledge that will equip them to have a better head start in their career or life.

Thoughts on the AH BRG Mentoring Program:
The program was thoughtful of the mentees' needs, and the structure provided was very helpful and rich with valuable content, especially in the group sessions. I had the most fulfilling, enlightening, and educative sessions with my mentor. He showed up prepared and with ample content. He was also ready to learn, which was very humbling for me. In addition, I was inspired by his advice on "having two hearts, one for the job you hold and another for the job you desire." It has kept me going as I pursue my career aspirations.

Career aspiration in the next year:
I will be celebrating my second anniversary with Thermo Fisher in 2022, and I have the pleasure of being in the frontline, on the production floor, working on products that directly impact our clients.

I hope to continue to grow within Thermo Fisher Scientific in a career where I can use my Manufacturing and Human Resources work experience—allowing me to continue contributing to improving human health through the quality of our medical solutions.

Fun Fact:
I love ground beef and would have it in everything if I could get away with it! Nothing, however, tops having some in my mum's finger-licking Githeri; a Kenyan delicacy that combines pan-fried beans and corn.
