In this interview with Kevin, a Financial Analyst III at our Greenville, NC Pharma Services site, he explains how his financial skills and acumen help support our Mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.
Q: What do you do at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
A: As a Financial Analyst within the Drug Product team at our Greenville, North Carolina site, I support the operations of our Oral Solid Dose and Steriles businesses. Our Oral Solid Dose business is responsible for the commercial manufacturing and scale of products that come in the form of capsules and tablets used for a variety of treatments, like pain relief, allergies, ADHD, etc. Our Steriles business manufactures drugs that are injected into the body and are filled in either vials, syringes or cartridges, such as the COVID-19 vaccine. The impact our company is making in the world truly inspires me. It’s been fulfilling knowing that the work we do every day is helping us move into a post-pandemic world. It’s exciting to do work with a purpose.
Q: How did you know you wanted to work in Finance at Thermo Fisher?
A: Finance was always what I wanted to do. I could work at a bank, but with the pandemic, I realized how much more our work here matters. We track projects, look at costs and pricing, monitor and analyze the performance of our various business functions and report the numbers behind the scenes. When we hit our numbers, we can make financial decisions that benefit the world. Even at the analyst level, you’re given meaningful work from the start. At our large company, you can do multiple types of finance roles and constantly keep learning. It’s never exclusively about finance; it’s also about the science behind what we do.
Q: What’s your advice for job seekers interested in your line of work?
A: In this line of work, it’s crucial to have a strong analytical mindset, build strong relationships with teammates and business partners and communicate effectively. One of the most important things I’ve learned during my career here is to ask questions. The colleagues at Thermo Fisher are always willing to sit down with you and answer any questions you have.
