Security Specialist duties and responsibilities
A Security Specialist's main duty is to safeguard confidential, private, trade secret and other sensitive data from data thieves and unauthorized individuals. Some common Security Specialist job duties include:
- Running tests and assessments to identify potential security vulnerabilities
- Developing plans and procedures to safeguard and recover data
- Improving existing security with password protection, firewalls and other tools
- Installing and maintaining security software to protect data systems
- Monitoring systems, servers and networks for any signs of incursions
- Responding to data breaches and malicious malware attacks
- Simulating data loss scenarios to evaluate the efficiency of existing recovery plans
- Training other employees on safety
Security Specialist skills and qualifications
The most important qualifications for the position include:
- Extensive knowledge of security frameworks
- Research skills to keep abreast of the latest malware threats and developments in IT security
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to identify and diagnose threats
- Problem-solving skills to develop effective procedures and plans
- Strong oral and verbal communication skills to write reports, train staff and collaborate with other members of your IT team
- Multitasking skills to complete other tasks while monitoring data systems
- Interpersonal skills to build reports that are clear and easy-to-read
Security Specialist education and training requirements
a bachelor’s degree in FM related field
